SE Experia X1 Smart Phone

Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Microsoft to release Windows Mobile smartphones and sure enough, the first such device was revealed at GSMA and its name is the Sony Ericsson EXPERIA X1. In the past, Sony Ericsson smartphones, such as the P1i, have used the Symbian mobile operating system (UIQ). The launch of the XPERIA line marks the debut of Windows Mobile on the company's devices. The X1 is the first in the series, and makes quite the impression.

It has a cool arc slider design with a 3-inch VGA touchscreen on the front, and a full QWERTY keyboard underneath. It's as attractive on the inside as it is on the outside. The proprietary XPERIA panel menu gives users the freedom to arrange the screen as they want.

The X1 is a quad-band, HSDPA/HUSPA, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone running Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition. It comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera, assisted GPS, a multimedia player, 400MB of internal memory, and microSD expansion slot.

The X1 has certainly been one of the hot products of GSMA, as evidenced by the number of people swarming around the phone at the Sony Ericsson booth. I'm hoping to shove my way in there today to get some hands-on time and photos of the device, so hold tight. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is scheduled to ship during the second half of 2008. Not to sound like a broken record, but there is still no word on pricing or U.S. availability.

An Overview of After Market PDA Bluetooth Accessories

by: R James Cook

Bluetooth Makes it Easy for All Your Devices and Accessories to Work Together

Bluetooth is one of the latest marketing buzzwords for PDAs and cellular phones, along with PCs and especially laptops. It is a wireless technology designed to let products and accessories built by different manufacturers work together, without requiring special access codes or driver installation. Theoretically, any Bluetooth accessory should work with any Bluetooth-enabled device, and multiple accessories working with the same device shouldn't interfere with each other.

For example, if you pick up a Bluetooth headset for your current PDA, and then in a year's time replace it with a new PDA, the headset should work with the new PDA without any difficulties. With some older PDA Bluetooth accessories and devices, this is not always the case, but generally the more recent the design of the accessory or device, the more likely it is to work with other Bluetooth products.

PDAs, Cellular Phones, and Computers

New PDAs today resemble cellular phones as much as classic PDAs like the Palm Pilot. Most of these devices are Bluetooth-enabled, and even have the capability to link with other Bluetooth-enabled PDAs and cellular phones to exchange data. For models that are not Bluetooth-enabled, there are frequently PDA Bluetooth accessories available that will add Bluetooth capabilities to the unit. Bluetooth adapters are also available for PCs and laptops, usually plugging into a USB port, allowing you to easily exchange data between your computer and your PDA.

Just about any type of data can be transferred over a Bluetooth link, from electronic business cards and pictures to word processing documents and PowerPoint presentations. For transferring data from a PDA to a computer, special software is often needed and included with the Bluetooth adapter. However, PDAs running Windows Mobile can communicate natively with computers running Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.

Having a Bluetooth PDA and a Bluetooth adapter for your computer can eliminate the need for a docking station or sync cable, removing one more piece of clutter from your desktop. You can even set the two devices up so they automatically synchronize their data when they're in range of each other.

Other PDA Bluetooth Accessories

Headphones and headsets are the most common PDA Bluetooth accessories right now. Wireless headphones are great if your PDA has music stored on it, because you don't have an unsightly wire running from your head to your pocket or purse. Headsets and earpieces allow hands-free operation of your cell phone or smart phone, which is not only convenient but is also quickly becoming a legal requirement world-wide for using your phone in your car.

Printer manufacturers are quickly adding Bluetooth capabilities to their products, turning them into convenient PDA Bluetooth accessories. Previously, to print something stored on your PDA, you had to use the docking station or sync cable to download the information to your computer, then print it from the computer. With a Bluetooth-enabled printer, you can send your data directly to the printer without the intervening steps. If your computer is also Bluetooth-enabled, it can send data to the printer as well, eliminating the need to hook up the printer to the computer or network.

There are many other PDA Bluetooth accessories available for your PDA, and with Bluetooth it doesn't matter who manufactures either the device or the accessory. A Motorola headset will work with an iPhone, and a Palm Tungsten can print spreadsheets on a HP LaserJet. Manufacturers are constantly coming up with new PDA Bluetooth accessories to meet the demands of consumers. Bluetooth technology is making it easier for everyone to communicate.

Useful Tips to Find Reliable, Competent Broadband Provider

Due to its ever growing popularity, various broadband Internet connection providers have entered the market and offer high speed Internet connection to meet the soaring demand.

However while choosing a broadband Internet connection provider you need to keep various factors in mind. Here are some of the things that you must look for in a company:

• Finding about the reputation of the company in the market is most important and everything else is secondary. Read the online testimonials and talk to the previous as well as existing customers and ask about the quality of services, professionalism, competency of the company etc.

• The fast connection speed is of utmost importance. Find out whether the speed to download is fast or not. And the speed to upload data on the net should be fast too.

• In case of satellite Internet connection, it is important to enquire whether the company provides the equipments required to receive the signals from the satellite above or you have to make the purchase on your own. Usually companies provide the necessary equipments but at times, some of them charge exorbitant prices for the installation of initial equipments. Hence enquire about these things beforehand.

• Consult the existing customers and find out about the uptime of the company. The uptime is the amount of time, the services run properly without any hindrances.

• Find out whether you can connect multiple computers to the same terminal.

• Enquire about discounts offered by the company on some packages. Usually discounts are more when the contract is for a longer duration.

• The role of the company doesn’t end just after selling. The quality of after sale services tell a lot about the company’s professionalism and how much it cares for the client even after the deal is done. Hence enquire about this from existing and previous customers.

• Make sure that you read each and every clause mentioned in the contract thoroughly before signing on the dotted line. At times, there are some hidden charges which can increase your expenses later on. Hence read the terms and conditions carefully and in case you have some query or doubt about certain clause, clarify from the company first and only then proceed.

Keep these suggestions in mind and you would surely find a broadband Internet connection provider that will best fulfill your Internet needs.

3G Handphone

3G Handphone Review

by John Bertone

For the last few years there has been a lot of talk about 3G or Third Generation handphones.

Telecommunications and electronics manufacturing giants made the news as they battled to be the first in what was hoped would be a huge market for a new era of mobile communication, and then when 3G was actually set up, handphone companies tried to convince consumers to upgrade to the new services.

Despite all the talk, a lot of people still don’t know what 3G handphone really means. What follows is a brief guide to 3G handphone communication.

What is it?

3G handphone means that the new generation of handphones now have the capacity to hook up to wireless broadband services. The connection speed is 144 kbps and which is roughly three times the speed of a 56K dial up modem connection. Some services offer higher connection speeds.

With this enhanced connectivity you can now surf the Internet from a phone, enjoy streaming music video, watch on-demand video programming, download and play 3D games, and videoconference with your friends and colleagues.

Laptop users also can take advantage of 3G networks for mobile broadband without a Wi-Fi network; all you need is a carrier-supplied PC Card and a data plan.

What kinds of 3G networks exist?

There are two main varieties of 3G: UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone Service), which uses W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) as its underlying standard, and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimised), which brings 3G speeds to CDMA networks.

Both W-CDMA and 1xEV-DO are already available in major cities in Australia with more expansion coming soon. Speeds for both should be about entry-level ADSL quality.

Which Companies provide 3G handphone services?

In Australia, The big four handphone networks / carriers all have 3G handphone services, but they each have different plans, services and coverage areas.

Presently the service of these carriers is not provided in all localities, and when a user goes outside the 3G supported areas, the phones fall back on the normal GSM/ GPRS system enabling users to reach approximately 95% of the handphone population.

Service plans from the major providers range from around $20 a month and up.

What Kinds of Phones Support 3G?

If you want to take advantage of 3G handphones you not only have to subscribe to a new service plan, but you need a new hand phone. Third-generation handsets offer video calls, music downloads and streaming services.

They're generally a bit bigger than their 2G predecessors but offer a whole lot more multimedia capacity. All the major manufacturers (Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Sharp, NEC, Samsung) sell models with 3G handphone capacity.

Check with your service provider to find out which handsets are suitable for the plan that you wish to sign up for.

What’s coming next?

In the near future the connection speeds of 144kbps will be increased to 30-100 Mbps in the so-called 4G networks. These speeds will allow users to enjoy high-quality streaming video, high-quality videoconferencing and voice-over-IP mobile communication.

If you enjoy the services that you get on a broadband Internet connection and would like to have them in your pocket, then the time is right to take a close look at 3G handphones.

VoIP Over the Internet

You have probably searched all over the internet, gathering and reviewing as much free info and reviews as you can to find the best VoIP provider out there. Believe me, I totally understand how you feel. Considering the current economic situation, we all need to be thrifty as ever and save money on our short and long distance phone calls as much as possible. I felt the same way, I was on a serious budget and would rather spend my hard earned money taking my wife to a fancy restaurant rather than on my phone bills.

But what I found was there was so much conflicting information. Some would recommend Vonage but some would say to avoid it completely. Who do you listen to? I was afraid that the VoIP providers recommended by other people would actually waste me money more than save them. The voice quality sucks and the customer service is almost non-existent.

Heck, to me the best VoIP provider is the one that provides excellent voice quality and incomparable customer service. I want somebody to be there when I have problems with my calls. That is why I think VoIPYourLife is far superior than others (even Vonage) when it comes to the excellent voice quality (as good as or better than the standard telephone service) and not forgetting the unmatched customer service. If you can't get their customer service (which is highly unlikely), they have a forum where everybody can communicate with other members and share their experiences. You can also reach them by phone. Their service and support is nothing short of amazing and top notch. The truth is, many have made the switch to the VoIPYourLife service because other outdated companies can't even top the high level of customer satisfaction provided by them.

There's no doubt in my opinion that their level of service adds all those extra values that you might not find elsewhere.

VoIP is Voice over Internet Protocol. Standard telephone lines are referred to as PSTN or the Public Switched Telephone Network. PSTN works on circuit switching. A good example of circuit switching is the old switchboard operator who would connect callers to receivers by the use of electrical circuits. VoIP is Packet Switching. Packet Switching consists of data packets, or packets of information being carried across the Internet, from your computer to either another computer or PSTN telephone.

VoIP operates in different forms. For instance, you can use VoIP when you use an Instant Messaging program with voice on your computer. These are very popular and now Yahoo, AOL, MSN, ICQ, and even Google have VoIP Instant Messaging programs. The benefits of these programs are that they are free to download off of the Internet, and by using a microphone and your speakers; you can talk over the Internet with any of your buddies. As long as your friends and family members download the same program, you will be able to talk with them as long as you like no matter where they are in the world.

Another method of VoIP technology is to use a VoIP service provider for your basic telephony needs. A very familiar company is Vonage. For a monthly fee, you will receive VoIP services, the same as you pay for your regular telephone services. You can choose to use your VoIP service over the Internet, or you can choose to connect your VoIP to your standard telephone. By connecting a VoIP phone adapter to your modem and standard phone, you will be able to use your VoIP service and your telephone as you would with any other telephone service provider.

Many people prefer to use a VoIP service provider because the cost of local and long distance calling with VoIP is very inexpensive. Many providers offer unlimited calling plans. There are other features that are often bundled with your service plan. Features such as Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Call Transfer, and 3 Way Calling are often included for free in your selected VoIP plan. By choosing your VoIP service provide and installing a phone adapter, you will be on your way to making low cost VoIP calls in minutes.

You can also purchase a specialized VoIP phone. These phones come in both cordless and corded styles. The cordless VoIP phones work the same as standard cordless phones. Many of these phones also come with conferencing features and are suitable for small or home business needs.

Another form of VoIP telephones are the VoWiFi phones. These are wireless VoIP phones. This is the same technology as VoIP, only you are not limited to a plugged in connection. You can use your VoWiFi phone wherever there is a wireless High Speed Internet Connection. These phones are more expensive than mobile phones, and haven’t had all of the kinks worked out yet. However, they are still a cost effective choice for those who would like to save a little money.

VoIP has proved to be a viable source of telecommunications. Many companies are now offering VoIP services and those who aren’t have plans to do so. Companies such as Verizon and Sprint offer VoIP services. Other companies are working on creating VoIP phones and VoWiFi phones.

There are Hybrid phones on the market, which allow for both VoWiFi and Cellular calling. These phones have many people excited. They can work in a network range as a cellular phone, and then, they can work as a VoWiFi phone, avoiding all roaming charges.

The FCC has issued some regulations regarding VoIP and the ability to call 911. Because VoIP uses the Internet and not a landline phone, when a call is made to 911 from a VoIP connection, the operator who receives the call receives none of the caller’s pertinent information. This includes address or location of the call. Some service providers do not supply 911 at all; others have what is known as Enhanced 911 services. To use these services you may need to activate your service, as well as register your information with 911. However, you will need to sign a statement when you apply for your VoIP services stating that you understand your 911 capabilities may be limited.
